Fall Harvest

Jennifer Hennegan

Can you believe that it is September already?  It seems like just yesterday we were opening Christmas presents and ringing in the New Year.  What I look forward to the most each fall is the annual trip to the pumpkin farm.  I can’t imagine not getting out into the crisp autumn air, walking around the patch looking for the perfect pumpkins, and topping the trip off with a taffy apple.   Here, some of our subscribers share their memories of visits to the pumpkin farm.  Who wouldn’t want to take one of these adorable little pumpkins home?

Editor's note: I love how the focal photograph just leaps off the background, which is nearly neutral.  The stitching and torn accent strips on the left of the focal photo stop the action on that side of the page, and neatly direct the viewer to the title and second photo on the right side of the layout.

Pumpkin Festival by Carey Bridges.  Supplies: Digital paper from Swatches - Bess kit, Paper tears from Siri kit, Stitching from Stitching No. 1 kit (all by Carina Gardner), fonts: Bleeding Cowboys, Highland Perk.

Editor's note: Even thought Caroline's page is richly layered with many patterned papers in orange, burgundy, and green, the photo pops because the saturation of the colors is so strong compared to the more muted tones in her papers and accents.

Pumpkin Patch by Caroline Langlois. Supplies:  Paper: Melissa Frances, Cardstock: Bazzill Basics, Rub-ons: American Crafts, Stickers: Melissa Frances, Photo corner: American Crafts (altered), Chipboard: Deluxe Designs, Ribbon: American Crafts, Brad: American Crafts, Ink: Ranger.

Translation: A nice afternoon spent in the pumpkin patch. You have several times reviews before choosing the one that would become ours. You wanted the most beautiful, not too big or too small, but round and colorful. You've finally found ours, we get back home and we've decorated!

Design note:

This is actually one of my earlier layouts using Photoshop Elements 5. I was still learning what the program could do. One of the things I find helps me with my layouts is creating a new layer for each photo, element, brush, etc. This was it, is easy to recolor, move, delete, or change my layout without a lot of extra work. And don't forget to SAVE often!

Zack - Little Pumpkin by Megan Hubbard.  Supplies: Fall Foliage Kit and Fall Collage Frames from Jen Maceyunas, Software: Adobe PSE 5.0.

Journaling: October 18, 2005
