Buttons,
Beads and Bobbles
Michelle
McClung

Buttons, beads and bobbles are wonderful little
embellishments for any project. They add
texture and movement, can be found in endless
colors, styles and themes; their uses are only
limited by your imagination.
What a better way to add interest to a page than
by adding something that moves! Bobbles, or
items such as slides, hinges and springs, do
just that. You can really spruce up ordinary,
flat layouts of just cardstock with a couple
simple touches.
There are no worries about not being able to
find buttons to match your project. Not only do
some of your favorite scrapbooking manufacturers
make buttons to match their collections, but you
can find very creative, artistic buttons in so
many different craft and sewing stores. I just
bought baseball-themed buttons - from WalMart! -
to go on a layout. Jo-Ann’s and Michael’s have
a very large selection, too. Take a walk down
their aisles and check out their stock. I’ve
found that it really gets your creative juices
flowing!

Design note: I
chose some natural- toned papers to fit with
the picture, a neutral background, assembled
all of this and stitched around each of the
papers and the picture. Then I decorated
with some branches and flowers around the
picture to enlarge the focal point.

Design note:
I did not want to clutter the background
with another paper, so I printed my
journaling on a transparency. To get it to
fit perfectly within the space, I traced the
space onto a spare piece of paper, scanned
it in to PS and then created my journaling
on a separate layer. Because the picture
had colors that didn't work with the paper
and some medical equipment that was
visually distracting, I cleaned out the
background and removed all the color from
the picture, minus my son's blanket.

Journaling:
This is the very first picture of you and
daddy together. We were so unprepared to be
parents. Oh, we had everything for you;
diapers, clothes, every possible solution to
every possible scenario, but we did not
realize the impact it would have on our
hearts. Seeing this picture, this
beginning, still makes me catch my breath in
my throat. Matthew, there are a few things
that you need to know about your daddy. He
is the most loving and caring man I know but
he has a hard time showing it. You dad will
have your back in EVERY possible way and
will be there if you just HINT that you need
him. He is a very strong man and will try
to defeat all your fears. Yes, you will have
your tough times, but that is what makes us
who we are and a relationship as strong as
it can be. I am sure that as you grow, you
and your father will not always see
eye-to-eye. Please remember that he only
wants what is best for you and does not want
to see you make the same missteps that he
did. He has been there, he has done it all,
and he has the knowledge to help guide you
through. Always trust and lean on him for
whatever you need. This picture only
represents the beginning; there is no end to
his love for you. -Mommy
