Einstein once said, “Example isn’t another way
to teach, it’s the only way to teach”. Last
month we talked about paying a visit to Square
One – Hybrid Scrapbooking 101. This month I am
going to show you square one with a few examples
of hybrid techniques that you can try today!
From journaling to altering your photos, using
your computer as a scrapbooking tool can open up
the possibilities on all of your layouts. Dora
does an outstanding job of letting her photos do
the “laughing” on her layout. By sending the
base of her layout through her printer, her
small font left an effective white space that
draws the reader’s attention to the subject.

Design note:
The
best purchase I made last year was a wide
format printer. I found an HP on sale and
did not hesitate. It allows me to print my
journaling and anything else I want on the
bottom "layer" of my hybrid page with ease.

Laugh by Dora Phillips. Supplies:
Cardstock: Bazzill, Alpha: Maya Road,
Frame: Fancy Pants Designs, Chipboard,
Rub-On: Cherry Arte, Font: Happy Journal.
Journaling: You have the best sense
of humor, pumpkin. You love to tell a joke
or a silly story. And you love to make
faces at me until we both have a bad case of
the giggles. I love to hear you laugh.
|

Editor’s note: Kerryn’s photo caught my attention
right away! The posterize filter she used on the photo,
with an additional layer of sepia, gives this layout a
commanding presence. |
 |
Because I Love It. by: Kerryn Fry.
Supplies: Paper: Cosmo Cricket,
Cardstock: Bazzill, Chipboard: Finmark, Pen:
Marvy, Other: buttons.
Journaling: I love to be challenged,
to be made to think outside the square. I
enjoy creating things for people to keep as
memories. Scrapping is my time when I find
inner peace; it is something that gives me
so much joy. Most importantly, I do it so I
can remember little things later in life.
 |

Editor’s note: Christy used one of my favorite
hybrid techniques; color popping! By adding a duplicate
layer in Photoshop and converting it to black and white,
you can erase parts of the picture that you want your
color to show through.

Why by: Christy Spruiell. Supplies: Paper:
Scenic Route, Cardstock: Bazzill, Chipboard:
Scenic Route, Cosmo Cricket, Buttons: Making
Memories, Pen: Pigma, Other: buttons.
Journaling: (on letters) For Fun...For
Future...For Therapy...For Release...For
Boredom...For Relaxing...For Me...For
Him...For Them. (on arrow) So why do I
scrap? I wish I could really say it was to
leave some kind of legacy for the boys or to
show them how I feel. But really, it's
because I don't have a piano!
