Journaler’s Junction
It should be of no
surprise to anyone that one of my favorite blogs focuses
on the journaling aspect of scrapbooking. Nothing
piques my interest more than unique writing and talented
wordsmithing. It is difficult to find challenge blogs
that place such importance on journaling. So when I
found The Journaler’s Junction (www.journalersjunction.chindimples.com),
I was immediately excited! The team’s motto is simple,
yet powerful. They believe that we each have a voice
and, as a result, “don’t we all have something to say”.
I couldn’t agree more, but fully understand that many
people don’t add journaling to their projects. Just
check out this blog, and that will change. With
one-of-a-kind challenges, participants are given
interesting prompts or techniques designed to help
incorporate journaling into layouts. The design team
showcases outstanding work that makes it all look so
easy! I am consistently impressed with their sense of
humor and distinctive take on things.
Challenges involve
a concept, a technique, or a specific topic. Past
conceptual challenges have asked you to put the focus on
a meaningful number in your life or to use a Random Word
Generator to identify a word to be used as the basis of
a layout. Techniques such as filling an entire blank
space with words or using a crossword puzzle for your
journaling are always stimulating and creative. Really,
I think these gals are super clever to come up with such
innovative ideas to help participants improve and, most
importantly, enjoy journaling. The current challenge is
to use the prompt, “Today…” as a starter. Imagine all
the ideas that can be conjured up, all the possible
topics you can focus on. The team’s final products show
their individual creativity and styles.
I presented the
team founder, Heather, with some questions and received
her insightful answers on behalf of her team.
What is the
overall purpose of this challenge blog?
The purpose is
to provide weekly inspiration and to challenge
scrappers to think outside of the box and journal in
ways that they may have never thought of before.
Your journaling
ideas/prompts are always so creative. How do come up
with them?
We have a
rotating schedule. Each team member comes up with a
challenge for the week they host. We all get the
challenge a week or more in advance so we have
examples to post on challenge day (usually
Tuesdays). The host for the week posts the challenge
and everyone's layouts on the blog and on the pub
board at 2peasinabucket.
How have your
personal scrapbooking styles or approaches changed since
you started the blog?
I think we have
gotten very good at taking our individual styles and
adapting the challenge to fit each one of us. It is
one aspect of our team that I love. Each one of us
has such a different style that it helps a wide
range of scrappers realize that our challenges can
work for them.

Journaling: Today…you
ran, you chewed, you teased, you jumped, you
leaped, you gnawed, you barked, you pranced,
you strutted, but you wouldn't let me have
your stick
What being a part of this
team means to you: Journaling used to
be a weak point for me in the process of
designing a scrapbook page. Being a member
of the Journaler's Junction team has pushed
me to journal more, and has also pushed me
into journaling some of the darker sides of
my life and my childhood. (It can't all be
fun parks and play dates.) What makes this
challenge blog different from most others is
that it's not about design, but content.
It's been really fun thinking up challenges
(like my challenge to use acronyms, or
another one using a thesaurus) and even
better to see what other people do with the
challenge.

What being a part of this
team means to you: I started this
challenge two years ago as a way to
challenge myself and others to think outside
of the box of the basic "who, what, when,
where" journaling. All of the ladies I have
worked with, past and present, have been
incredibly talented and creative. I have
learned so much from them, and been so
inspired by them, and I think that is the
most wonderful thing about being on this
team. Well, that and all of fantastic pages
that I never would have gotten done without
being associated with this challenge and our
amazing team.
