Photo Stop

Jorinde Van Dongen

Get inspired by Tara Whitney!  When I was looking for a great topic for this month’s Photo Stop I decided to go on the internet for some inspiration. Well, I can tell you, boy did I get inspired!  I found this great website by Tara Whitney.  She is a professional photographer from the Orange Country, USA. Her pictures are all about everyday family life.  Looking at her pictures you can see the fun they all had when the picture was taken.

Since Tara and scrappers both have the love of capturing life in common and because her pictures are so inspiring, I though it would be a great idea to do a different Photo Stop for this November issue.   This Photo Stop will be all about Tara Whitney.

Here is a view of some of her pictures:

Now after seeing all this fun pictures, it is time to get to know Tara a little bit better so I asked her a few questions.

Could you tell us a little bit about yourself?

  • I am a photographer and mother of four who lives in southern California.

How did your passion for photography get started?

  • I have always loved the idea of photography, and begged my parents to be allowed to take over the family camera on vacations. Once I had my own children, the passion came back strong. My husband surprised me with a camera one Christmas (Canon Rebel, film) and I took some  classes to learn how to use it. After that I didn't have a chance.  I was hooked.

Where do you find your inspiration?

  • From the people I photograph. I am so inspired by family connection,  love and laughter.

I have noticed that you have these amazing backgrounds in your      photos. How do you find most of those, spontaneously or do you make      special trips to find great spots?

  • Almost always spontaneously.  I think I get lucky!

Do you have a good photography tip that could be helpful, even for      those that use a compact camera?

  • Capture the smaller details. Have fun with your camera. Don't worry about what anyone else does. Do what makes YOU happy!

Final little note:  It’s so clear that Tara Whitney lives by the photography tip that she gave us,  as you can see in her pictures above, it’s all about having fun in front and behind the camera.   My tip for this month is to go to Tara's website (www.tarawhitney.com) and blog (www.tarawhitney.com/justbeblogged), have a look, and get inspired by her beautiful work.
