Trendy
Techniques
There are so many wonderful aspects of hybrid
scrapbooking that I have a hard time narrowing
them down to only a handful to speak about in
every article. The single most important thing
I love to tell potential scrappers about hybrid
scrapbooking is “versatility”.
Hybrid scrapbooking is all about the freedom to
create and re-create techniques and to make them
your own. I cannot even begin to list all the
different ways I have used fonts and brushes.
The possibilities for future uses are literally
endless as well! Next time you are feeling at a
loss for ideas, try one of the following
artist’s inspiring tips.
Altered Items
Have you ever found yourself at a loss for a
last minute hostess gift? Or you simply cannot
find the perfect shirt or bag to give that
quirky birthday girl? This is a perfect
scenario of how hybrid scrapbooking could work
for you as it did for Candy!
Journaling Space
Have you ever had the perfect layout planned
only to realize that you did not leave enough
space to tell your story? Why not journal ON
your photo like Amy?
Perfectly-phrased Rub-ons/Stickers
Have you ever known exactly what you wanted to
add as that final embellishment or even your
title but cannot find a single rub-on or sticker
that says what you are envisioning? If you have
a few minutes and a few extra supplies, you can
make your own like Gina!

Design note:
The fairy was laminated to hold up to use on
the tin and closely trimmed. The butterfly
was printed (not laminated), and inside the
metal frame is a daisy flower print. The
paint on the tin is several layers, with
beads forming a flower in the lower right
and microbeads scattered around.

Fairy "Pixie" Tin by Candy Rosenberg.
Supplies: Fairy, butterfly and
daisies printed from digital kit from
pixelgypsydesigns.com, Paint: Ranger, Other:
microbeads, metal frame.

Design note:
I have recently found a new hybrid solution
of where to place journaling without
interfering with the composition of the
page: I keep my eye keen to pictures that
lend themselves well to having text placed
directly on them. I followed the contour of
the subject here with the text to help it
flow well with the rest of the page
elements. |

Some of the flower embellishments I hand cut
from coordinating patterned paper and
adhered with dimensional dots. I heat
embossed parts of the title lettering for
added interest.
Remarkable by Amy Bell. Supplies:
Paper: Cloud 9, Cardstock: Bazzill,
Stickers: Cloud 9, Embossing Powder:
Stampabilities, Embossing Ink: Ranger, Paper
Ribbon: K and Company, White Pen: UniBall
Signo, Die Cutting Machine: Cricut, Photo
Editing Software: Photoshop Elements 6.0.,
Font: Margarosa (web).
Journaling: I am a foodie with a soft
spot for fast food, I am an outstanding
conversationalist in my sleep, I am a
stickler when it comes to a clean kitchen, I
am a slacker when it comes to a clean car, I
am the type to research every purchase, I am
an unabashed grammar snob, I am horrible at
being idle, I am lost without a list, I am a
mother, I am a wife, I am... Remarkable.

Design note:
The title is a home-made rub-on. I printed
out the digital word art element as a mirror
image on a transparency. As soon as it was
done printing I turned it over and placed
it, ink side down, on my layout and rubbed
over it. Lift off the transparency and
there you have your title!

Boy Oh Boy by Gina Johnson. Supplies: Paper:
Cosmo Cricket, Chipboard: Scenic Route,
WordArt: RachelScraps, Ink: Stampin' Up!,
Grungeboard: Tim Holtz, Other: Paint pens.
Journaling: Zeke I'm so excited God
has allowed me to be the mother of a boy!
Rough and tumble and dirty. I pray you will
be a godly "tough guy" ready to defend God's
Word. 4.08
