Style Swap

 Michelle Boeckermann

Ever find yourself viewing someone’s gallery and wishing you could scrap like that? Or admiring the way they use clean lines so well, or are able to cluster embellishments with ease? This month our kit club took it to the table and swapped styles.

Everyone was asked to partner up BEFORE they were told what this month's challenge would entail. Who would have thought this would be the hardest challenge to date for our club members! I personally was ready to pull my hair out after hours and hours of trying to capture Janneke’s beautifully simple, yet very complicated, graphic design style. I ended up asking for opinions over and over, only to finish a layout, not like it, and start all over! What I did find interesting was that everyone else was struggling too! But the best part of it all was that we all learned something new about our own scrapping styles, as much as we learned just a tidbit of the emphasis their partners do in their own scrapping.

Jenn and Jen partnered up and both have a similar style, but true to the game, I can see where they are emphasizing the other's. Knowing and watching both ladies scrap for a while now , I can see where Jennifer grabbed the use of bold white space and title to showcase Jenn’s style. Then you take a look at Jenn’s layout and see where she used the whole page, no white space, and lots of layering, so very true to Jennifer’s form. Both came out of the game with beautiful layouts, showcasing themselves wonderfully!

Journaling:  Labadee, Haiti Sept. 2006

Almost Paradise by Jennifer Wuthrich. Supplies: Digital Kit: “Oh So Happy” by Betsy Tuma, Fonts: Susie's Hand, Tandelle.

Design Note: Jenn sent me these five criteria showcasing her style: 1. simple; 2. clean lines; 3. white space; 4. splash of color; 5. light, as in light on embellishments. Swapping design styles is not always easy... and it was hard for me to leave so much white space on this layout. This is not generally something I would do but I really liked being challenged.

Journaling: I have a loving husband of 8 years, 2 handsome boys, a baby girl on the way and 2 puppy dogs. We have a home full of love and happiness. This is why I consider myself LUCKY.

Lucky by Jenn Keefer. Supplies: Digital Kit: “Promise Collection” by Shabby Princess @ the Shabby Shoppe.

Design note: The five things that describe Jen’s style are: 1. Layering patterned papers; 2. Main photo focus - typically will use 1 photo or 1 main photo and then the rest are small photos; 3. Distressing ; 4. Simple clean lines; 5. Use the entire page (not a lot of white space).
