Create a Collage Poster with Halftone Effects

I love playing with my pictures.  Sometimes with a little digi magic I can create something cool from a picture that would have been just another cute shot of the kids.  Come play!

I took a shot of my kids on the fake motorcycle at the park and found these two stock items to combine it with:

I started with the background shot.  I wanted to play with some halftones since they make for cool poster effects.  I made it easy on myself by using a free brushset from alibony.com.  Head here to snag them:  Dot Brushes.  I took a second to create a background with a little texture using the same shade as the yellow line from the picture.  You can open your fave solid background paper or make your own.  Then I loaded the brushes and used them with my eraser to frame the shot.

I decided to add in an arrow made with Elements Halftone tool.  I selected a red and used the shapes tool to create a large arrow.  Set the background to white and go to filter--sketch--halftone.

Create the size dots you wish--I went with size 7, contrast 3.  Then use the magic wand to select one of the white dots, hit select--similar and delete them.  Layer it ontop of your background.

I also needed to play with my photo of my kids.  I cut them out of the background--use your favorite technique as many will work.  Layering it on, I found that the colors did not quite work for what I wanted so I removed the color and used the filter artistic--poster edges for a fun look.

I took a second to play with the sign.  I knew the blue would get lost in the sky, so I lightened it to white using Enhance--adjust color--adjust hue/saturation taking the lightness to 100% white.  Next, I used the bucket to paint the same golden color into the letters.

I selected a couple of my favorite brushes and added a few last touches.  I changed some of the layers around and then linked everything but the background and reduced them to 90% and offset them a bit to the left.

Now I have some choices--do I finish off the page as a digi layout?  Do I print it and go hybrid?  Do I upload it and order a poster for my son's room?
