 Michelle McClung

After getting married and having two children, I felt complete.  This is what I had wanted - a wonderful husband, two great kids, a house, and my animals.   What else could be better?  Then I started thinking about long lost friends from my past.  People I have lost touch with for one reason or another, and started feeling nostalgic.

One friend in particular, who was like a sister to me,  I hadn’t spoken with in seven years!  We were friends since the seventh grade and went through all of the growing pains together - adolescence, boy troubles, first jobs, college, career choices…  I really wanted to get in touch with her and see how she was, tell her I missed her.  So, one day, I just called her and luckily I was able to talk with her.  We had a lot of catching up to do, but it felt like our seven year hiatus never happened.   We still talk and have even visited with each other (cross country!)  She’s another part completing my family and all it took was one phone call.

Design note: I made this sketch for Easter weekend’s Saturday Night Scrap.  I figured everyone would be busy with the holiday and this was a simple one to get done.  A single photo, bit of room for journaling and some embellishments.  I also felt the empty space above and below the photo block was a perfect opportunity to use those papers that has some patterns on a diagonal that you may normally end up covering with photos or other paper.

Sketch #1 by Michelle McClung.

Editor's note: Check out that felt worm!  It completes the page and pulls the viewer over to the journaling.

Bookworm by Brianne Nevill.  Supplies:  Cardstock: Bazzill,  Paper: Fancy Pants, Computer Generated,  Stickers: American Crafts, Brads: The Paper Studio,  Felt: Fancy Pants,  Paint: Scribbles Fabric Paint, Software: Adobe PSE 5.0, Font: Big Fish.

Journaling:  You are becoming an avid reader, just like your Mommy. You are constantly seen with a book in hand, and we always travel to faraway lands before bed each night.  I hope you will always love to read and have that appreciation for learning, Little Man.

Design note: I wanted to keep the diagonal feeling of the sketch.  This patterned paper had most of the pattern on a diagonal, but some was off to the side.  I used stickles on the leaves from the bottom left corner to the top right and also put my smaller photos on that angle, enhancing the diagonal design line.

Just Me and My Brother by Michelle McClung.  Supplies:  Paper, Title, Cardstock Pieces: My Mind’s Eye,  Glitter: Ranger,  Ink: Clearsnap.

Journaling:  Different in every way.  Disagree often.  Always best friends.  Cole and Corey 4/07.
