Recently when looking through a sales ad for a
local department store, a pair of yellow shoes
caught my eye. They caught my eye because my
mother once had a similar pair of shoes that I
can recall from my childhood. The ad got
me thinking about styles, how they come and go,
and often repeat every 10-15 years. These shoes
were straight from the 80s, if my childhood
memory serves correct.
Scrapbooking is very similar to fashion trends.
Several “hot trends” from when I first started
scrapbooking over 10 years ago are now starting
to surface again. Techniques and styles I
thought I would never use again are starting to
find their way back onto my “to try list”. I
suppose one could say “yesterday’s concepts” are
becoming “trend setting and hot” again with new
twists and improved style.

Design note: I
cut the artisan shape so that it would hug
the photograph a little tighter and tilted
it to add more visual interest. I also hand
cut the flowers and "leaves" from a piece of
patterned paper. Then I layered and grouped
the embellishments to cover some of the
"white space" on the bottom right hand
corner of the photograph and to draw the eye
directly to my photograph. I wanted to
create a "girly vintage" look with the
flowered patterned paper, the touch of lace,
flowers and felt.

Design
note:
I didn't have any photos from that Christmas
pageant, so I used photos of DH and I around
that time (9 or 10 years old). Normally I
don't hand journal, but it just seemed like
this story needed to be written out by hand.

Once upon a Time by Brenda Becknell.
Supplies:
Paper: Making Memories, Die Cuts with a
View, Flower, Journaling Frame: Making
Memories, Rub-ons: 7 gypsies, Button:
Stampin’ Up!, Ribbon: Other.
Journaling:
Once Upon a Time.....a young girl and boy
went to the same Sunday school, but were in
different classes, so they had never met.
When it came time for the annual Christmas
program, the girl & boy were assigned to do
the "welcome" and "goodbye" portions of the
program together. During practices, the
girl decided she didn't like the boy too
much. He and his friends talked and goofed
off all the time. He even punched her in
the shoulder once! She was really glad when
the program was over! How could she know
that ten years later, she'd end up marrying
that "yucky" boy, and raising two wonderful
children with him. They may not be so young
anymore, but they're still together after 32
years of marriage....and to think it all
started with a children’s' Christmas
pageant!

Design note: Focus
on photos: adding the photos down the middle
of the LO draws the viewer's eye directly to
the photos. I also added the strip of
patterned paper with the distressed edge to
lead the eye to the photos. I have be
challenging myself to use my own
handwriting...by using the white Uni Ball
Signo Pen I was almost able to have the
effect of hidden journaling...you have
really look to see it, but I promise you its
there.
