All About Paint

 Lori Burdshaw

When I was first given this article, my first thought was, “Uh-oh.” Out of everyone on the magazine staff, I probably know the least about using paint on scrapbook projects. I’m more the neat kind of gal…steering toward clean lines, matted pictures, and everything in its proper place. Ink, paint, glitter, and anything else that’s “messy”…to be honest…TERRIFIES me. But then I saw the layouts that were submitted and they didn’t LOOK scary. They looked interesting and eye-catching. And even more than that…they looked FUN!

Design note: I used paint around the edges of the photos to create a frenzied look. To fill up all the white space in the photo I adhered my title across the photo.

Rub-a-Dub by Dionne Molina. Supplies: Paper: Bam Pop, Cardstock: Bazzill, Stamps: 7 Gypsies, Letters: SEI, Making Memories, Pen: Zig, Other: paint.

Journaling: Tonight I watched all the boys whilst Sharna was working. 5 boys all aged under 5!! My work was cut out for me. Our bath is not quite big enough to fit everyone in comfortably but we made do and I thought it was hard co-coordinating 2 kids!!!

Design note: I painted the chipboard elements with crackle paint then rough and random dabbing with the Ranger Adirondack paint dabbers.

WAVE by Hilary Braidwood. Supplies: Cardstock: Bazzill, Chipboard Templates: Scrap goods, Alpha: Rusty Pickle, Postage Tag: Tim Holtz, Paint: Ranger.

Journaling: Struan Feb 2008 - Happy Smiling Waving Playing Having fun - MY BOY

Design note: I used paint on some transparency in several places. I painted in two different colors behind the title, journaling circle, ghost letter and text. Using paint behind the transparency really gave it a burst! I used various circle cutters, punches and die cutters for the circles. For the journaling I used my printer to print the text and then I painted behind it.

Simply B by Kari Ann Sweeney. Supplies: Paper: Carolee’s Collection, Whoopsy Daisy Collection, American Crafts, Cardstock: Color Mates, Ghost Letters: Heidi Swapp, Beads: Queen and Co., Brads: American Crafts, Paint: Making Memories, Ink: Tsukineko, Tools: EK Success Curvy Cutter, QuicKutz Circle Die, 2” Circle Cutter, Font: Dream Orphans, Lane Narrow.

Journaling: This photo reminds me of everything wonderful about the summer of 2007. Your hair shining in the sunlight, a bright smile on your face, the feeling of the earth beneath your feet. Bennet- it is simply 'you'
