Unique Boutique

 Terry McAuliffe

Welcome to a fun, new, unique little spot in our magazine. You’ll never know what you’ll find here, but, hopefully, you can count on finding inspiration. Each month we will travel to find inspiration in an everyday location.  Our first Boutique is the country farmers' market. Lots of bright colors, strange shapes and handcrafted signs. Who doesn’t love the fresh colors of flowers or the clusters of vegetables?  Come along and scrap with us!

Design note: When I looked at the inspiration piece from the market, my eye was instantly drawn to the bottom two photos: the carrots and the hand lettered sign. I wanted to incorporate the pop of orange off nature’s neutral—green. Neither are colors I use often so they were a challenge! I also wanted to duplicate the feel of the lettering and found the perfect ones in a digi kit that just needed a little recoloring to match my layout. I had fun playing with journaling right on leaf embellishments to really capture the market feel.

The Boys by Dora Phillips. Supplies: Kit: Good Day Sunshine by Jacque and Rachael Young, Flower: Punky Petals by Kate Hadfield, Stitches and Tag: Celebrate the Everyday by Emily Merritt and Natalie Braxton, Circle stitch and Buttons: Layer it on circles by Amy Hutchinson, Frame: Summer Borders and Frames by Jenna Desai (all from thelilypad.com), Font: Journal Hand.

Design note: After reviewing the special inspiration pictures, I decided to go with a more natural feel on my layout by incorporating greens and browns.

Journaling: For the past few years we have hopped in the car and taken a road trip up to the OKC zoo. We spend the entire day there visiting the different animals, old and new. Last year when we were up there, you would run up to the animal statues located throughout the zoo and request to have your picture taken. This year was no different. I think we found ourselves a new zoo tradition.

Zoo Traditions by Diana Brodeur. Supplies: Paper: BasicGrey, Cardstock: Bazzill, Stickers: BasicGrey, Brads: Paper Studio, Ink: Clearsnap, Pen: Sakura, Zig.

Journaling: Your first trip to the pumpkin patch was a highlight of that first Fall. You LOVED all the bright colored balls and once you laid eyes on the baby pumpkins, you were in love. Although, the biggest one in the patch did not escape your sight and you would not move away from it until Daddy put it in the wheelbarrow. Barely walking, but that did not stop you from moving from pumpkin to pumpkin for support, all the while giggling like crazy. I think Fall is something you will share a love with Mommy."
