Find Your Voice!

Becoming more comfortable with journaling requires only one thing: just doing it more often. If you are nervous, start with a few sentences describing the pictures. Answer the traditional “WH” questions of who, what, where, when, and why.

Dora included a darling journaling box on her layout where she could record the exact date and setting of her girl’s day. It will help them fondly remember this event as they grow older.

Design note: To make journaling easy, I just listed the answers to who, what, where, when, why, and how. The answers were easy to turn into a couple of quick sentences allowing me to have journaling without a bit of struggle.

Girl Time by Dora Phillips. Supplies: Digital kit: Cherry Pickin by Julie Bullock, Font: Sunnydale.

Journaling: Alex's Communion at Aunt Katy's house. Sammy, Allie, and Courtney hid from the boys for a quiet moment of bonding and dandelions. May 12th.

Feeling ready for more? Focus on your feelings about a particular photo or one small moment you remember vividly from that day. Grab a pen and start to tell the story as if you were chatting with a family member.

After seeing the photo of my daughter running away from my direction, I reflected upon what feelings were conjured up in me. The story is connected to the day, but focuses more on the emotions attached to it.

Design note: I was inspired to create the title because the photo is from my daughter’s second birthday party. In writing the journaling, I wanted her to know just how much she is cherished.

2 Fast by Stacey Michaud. Supplies: Paper: Little Yellow Bicycle, Deja Views, Pink Paislee, KaiserCrafts, Chipboard Letters: Heidi Swapp, Die Cut: K & Company, Bling: Me & My Big Ideas, Buttons: Autumn Leaves, Rhinestones: Scrappin’ Creations, KaiserCrafts, Flowers: Prima, Border Punch: Martha Stewart, Other: lace, fabric, stitching.

Journaling: How is it possible that you are two years old already? You have blossomed into a spirited, charming & curious child. Always making room for yourself in the world, you show strength & independence. While I celebrate those traits, they also scare me. I just want you to be my little girl forever. Ella, slow down. It’s going by too fast!

This month, make the commitment to journal on every page. Allow your voice to be heard.  I would love to see your pages showing your stories.  Send them to stacey@scrapstreet.com with any tips or fun ideas to share.

Join me over the next few months as we continue to hone our skills by exploring different writing techniques and approaches. Jump in! Let’s take the journey down the open road together!
