Digital Detour

  Jenn Hennegen

Welcome to Digital Detour, where we’re heading off-site in search of digital designers from around the world. World wide web, that is! This month we’re being diverted to Holland where an American transplant, Spellweaver, is hard at work.

Spellweaver, whose real name is Denise, began her adventures in scrapbooking in 1990 when she created a couple of school layouts for her children. That was it…she was done! With her children being young at the time, it was just too much trouble to put it out and pack it up each time. Five years later she made the switch to digital scrapping first through computer pintables. Today, she makes only one to two layouts a month and admits that most of her layouts are with kits by other designers. She also makes hybrid projects such as lanterns, clocks, popcorn wrappers and other similar items. Currently, she’s working on an album for herself so she can keep track of everything in her garden.

Design note: This layout was created for an ad challenge at a digital site. I had just been to the Keukenhof and had gotten some wonderful photos so I decided to make the ad from them. This was the result! I feel it really gives you a good idea of how beautiful the Keukenhof is!

Design note: I wanted a more elegant feel for this photo of the kids and Silvia's kit was perfect! I just kept it simple because I wanted the focus to be on the kids.

Design note: When we were home in America after my daughter's wedding, my kids went with their Dad to see their uncle in Tennessee. These are some photos he took from their trip. I played around with the background for quite awhile before deciding to use one of the photos as a background. I think it really gives you the feel of the Tennessee mountains and adds dimension to the close up photos.
