A “Clean Slate”

December is an insane month for me! It seems that this is a time of mass chaos…all of the school parties, work parties, baking, decorating and of course shopping and wrapping! To say the least…while I really enjoy every moment of it…January always is a welcomed month at my house.

Like many people in the world, January is also a time that I start out fresh each year…it’s a time of hope, a time of renewed energy and a time to set my goals for the year.

This year as the New Year is approaching I am already thinking about the resolutions that I want to make and how I will be able to achieve those goals this year. I have noticed in my life that when I set goals and then have a follow through plan it seems that I am able to stick with those goals better and actually accomplish them.

Design note: The photo on my layout was actually printed on twill ribbon! To do this, first print out your photo at the desired size onto a piece of cardstock. Do not cut it out yet! Next, apply adhesive to the twill ribbon by running it through a Xyron Machine. Place the twill ribbon in strips on top of the photo that was printed onto cardstock and then put it back into the printer. Print your photo again, only this time it will print onto the twill ribbon. When it is dry, simply cut it out and you're done!

The Woman in Me Needs the Man in You by Kory Anne Dordea Supplies: Paper: Bazzill, 3 Bugs in a Rug, Chipboard: Rusty Pickle, Heidi Swapp, Rub-Ons: Making Memories, Ric Rac: Other, Tape: 7 gypsies, Ghost Clock, Bling: Heidi Swapp, Metal Tag: Making Memories, Pen: Zig.

Journaling: I'm not always strong and sometimes I'm even wrong, but I win when I choose and I can't stand to lose. But I can't always be the rock that you see when the nights get too long and I just can't go on... the woman in me needs you to be the man in my arms to hold tenderly. 'Cause I'm a woman in love and it's you I run to. Yeah the woman in me needs the man in you. When the world wants too much and it feels cold and out of touch, it's a beautiful place when you kiss my face. The woman in me needs you to be the man in my arms to hold tenderly. 'Cause I'm a woman in love and it's you I run to. Yeah the woman in me needs the man in you. – Shania Twain

Design note: Before adhering anything down make sure placement is where you want it so nothing important is being covered up.

Thank You (Transparency Mini Book - Inspired by Ali Edwards) by Reneé Morris-Dezember. Supplies: Paper, Transparencies, Buttons: My Mind’s Eye, Cardstock Stickers: Heidi Grace, Ribbon: Making Memories, Other: Machine Stitching, Ink, Staples.

Journaling: The journaling in this mini book was a very private thank you to my dear friend Dana's parents. Dana passed away 2 years ago and left my children a significant amount of money for their college fund. Dana's mother presented checks to my children for the Dana Fishback Education Scholarship Fund.

Design note: I matted the picture with green cardstock that was inked with brown. I laid the transparency slightly offset over the coordinating patterned paper to give it a great dimensional look. When I stopped to think about my kids' lives and what I wanted to record in my scrapbook pages, I recalled the special moments of my childhood, and fairytales were one of those. Those fairytales have changed a bit over the years, and some are no longer popular at all. I wanted to give my son a special insight into my feelings for him by creating my own modern day fairytale.

A Modern Day Fairytale by Penny Brellenthin. Supplies: Paper: Hambly, Prism, Ink: Clearsnap, Overlay: Hambly, Chipboard: Magistical Memories, Paint: Ranger, Stickers: BasicGrey, ProvoCraft, Making Memories.

Journaling: It was a warm, sunny day when your cry burst forth. The whole village came bearing gifts and well wishes. At long last the first son was born! The birds began to sing the most beautiful song and we raised you high toward heaven in prayer. It was upon this day that our one true love began.
