Overhaul Alley

Christa Parker

Can you believe that it’s been a year already? Where have the months gone? It’s hard to believe that 2008 is here. January 2008, that means new New Year’s resolutions. Do you make one or two? Or are you like me, and “make one” and never stick to it. My favorite that I make each New Year is to be more organized. With four children who go in different directions every day, keeping the house up, making sure the laundry pile doesn’t reach the ceiling, and putting dinner on the table every night, I figured I really needed to be organized. Yeah right, that “organized” thing stops about a month into it when my life takes over with the busy schedule that I have. So this year I went with something fun and easy. Scrapbooking!! This resolution I know will work and last all year long. Here are a couple new and fresh ideas to start your New Year off.

Design note: I love this new idea using a Roll-O- Dex. What a fun way to display your children’s pictures. Using the tabs for the titles makes you want to flip through each section.

Favorite Photos Scrap-O-Dex by Cheryl Baase. Supplies: Scrap-O-Dex, Paper: Zsiage, Glue: Arts Adhesive, Pens: Sakura, Chippies: Zsiage, Film: Zsiage alfas.

Our Family Clock Altered canvas clock by Lucy Chesna. Supplies: Paper, Chipboard letters, Tags: Piggy Tales, Other: Clock, ink, hand stitching.

Photo file holder by Lisa Jamerson. Supplies: Cardstock: Bazzill, Paper, Words, Stickers: 7 Gypsies, Accordion Kit: 7 Gypsies, Ribbon: American Craft, Book Plate: Lil Davis, Other: adhesive, brads.

Directions:

1.Take outer cover from accordion album. Cut 2 sheets of patterned paper Kyoto to size. Take glue stick and cover outside of album cover. Take a brayer or something rigid like a credit card to smooth out the surface. Do the same thing with the opposite side of the album cover with the second sheet of Kyoto. Smooth the surface then place them under something hard and flat to allow the glue to dry.

2.Take 3 of the pieces of chipboard for the inside of the file. Take 3 sheets of Kobe patterned paper and cut to size. With glue stick glue the Kobe paper to 3 of the chipboard pieces on the outside. Smooth the surfaces and place them under something rigid to allow glue to dry.

3. Take the remaining 2 pieces of chipboard and cut the Kyoto patterned paper to size. Glue the paper to the outside of the chipboard and repeat the smoothing and laying under something heavy to allow glue to dry smoothly.

4. Once the glue is dry you can make the inside pockets. Cut 10 pieces of the black tape to 5 inches each. Fold a piece of tape to each side of the chipboard once folded to create the pocket.

5. Attach inside pockets together by brushing a strip of glue (I used Modge Podge) approximately 2 inches wide vertically down the center of the pocket attaching next pocket until all 5 pockets are together. Lay something heavy over pockets to allow them to dry.

6. Score the outside cover ¼ inch on each side of the center crease. This allows the file to expand.

7. Decorate cover as picture shows. a.. Cut 1 ½ inch by 7 ¼ inch strip from Kobe patterned paper. Attach to front of cover as picture shows. b.. Mount large sticker "P is for Photos" from 97% complete sticker sheet on black cardstock as a mat. c.. Choose any black strip of stickers from same sheet of stickers. Place strip below top margin of red patterned paper on cover as shown. You will have to cut this strip on the left side so it will fit but don't worry your large P sticker will cover this. d.. Place matted "P is for Photos" sticker on left front cover as diagram shows. e.. Place "smile" typewriter embellishment on large sticker as shown. f.. Attach book plate over word on black sticker strip and attach with 2 included brads.

8. Using exacto knife cut slit on front and back of cover one inch from top middle. Thread ribbon through hole from outside in and adhesive ribbon to inside of cover. Do this for both sides.

9. To attach cover to accordion pockets apply glue in strip as before to inside of back cover. Attach pockets to that side of cover. Place something heavy over this part being careful to not place anything on cover to allow this to dry.

10. You can tie the ribbon to keep the file closed.

11. Take 4 tabs on bottom of 97% complete sticker sheet and place them on backside of the accordion files as you would like the pictures filed. See photo for an example.
