Long before I ever heard the word
scrapping, I loved to sew. My biggest extravagance
was an embroidery machine and for one six-month period,
everything I could get my hands on soon had a cute
little creature or cartoon stitched on it.
Fortunately, my daughter was only 2 and thrilled to have
ducks, bunnies, and butterflies embroidered on shirts,
bibs, towels, and her first pair of big girl
panties.
Walking by the fabric store, I found my
first local scrapbooking store and life changed for me
in an instant. Papers with patterns as lush and
varied as the fabric I was addicted to and they took up
less room! I was hooked. My style has grown
and changed through my scrapping years, but I always
come back to that trusty sewing machine when my page
needs just that special something. And I am not
the only one. Check out these talented scrappy
stitchers.

Love U
by Kory Anne Dordea. Supplies: Fabric, Burlap, Lace, and
Thread: JoAnn's, Fabric Photo Paper: Avery, Ric
Rac: Wrights, Ghost Letter: Heidi Swapp, Metal
Key: JoAnn's Essentials, Silver Leafing Pen:
American Accents, Silver Ink Pad: Colorbox,
Staples: Sewing Machine.
Design
note: This
layout is full of different fabrics and machine
stitching. The photo itself is even printed onto fabric!
Instead of using patterned papers on this layout, I went
to the fabric section of my local craft store and chose
some fabrics that appealed to me. I also purchased some
coordinating colors of burlap. I frayed the edges of the
fabric and burlap, layered it underneath the fabric
photo, and then used my sewing machine to stitch it in
place. I also stitched on some lace and a strip of cream
cardstock to break up the fabrics. The heart was
actually cut from a piece of cardboard box. I cut it
out, roughed it up a lot, and then ran my ink pad across
it. The ghost letter "U" was roughed up with sandpaper,
inked, and placed on pop dots.

Design
note: To add
a bit of interest to the page, I sanded around all the
patterned paper and stickers to reveal the white core
underneath. |

Journaling:
Oh how you
love your kitty cats. Grandpa gave you and Makele
each a kitten last month. Makele's is the striped cat;
she named him "Sprinkles." I helped you name your black
cat "Felix." They put up with a lot from you chasing
them around and curiously poking and prodding them. This
is your first cat and already you have fallen in love
with them! July 27, 2007.

Design note: This is a
digital layout, made with Paint Shop Pro. To focus
on the romantic bed I used the form of a circle
and let it come back in the round tag. The digital
stitches made by Natali look very real. I
recolored them to fit with the background.
