The Font Thing

The Font Thing is a small package to download but a powerhouse application to view the fonts on your system before you tackle your latest scrapbook or journaling project. This small program allows you to examine fonts in your system folder and that show up in the text editing of your photo software. As you open up the program it lists on the left hand side the fonts that are in your windows folder as well as any you may have added there.

You also have the option of navigating elsewhere on your system to where you have downloaded fonts, and then to examine that new font you downloaded for your project.  On the right hand side is the test panel with the phrase "the quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog" to test each letter and allow you to see what the font looks like. Of course, you can also test it at that point with the phrase you want to use yourself. It allows you to change the size of the font with a slide control or you can type in the size you want for precision. Love the font? Then install it from there by right clicking the font name and choose install. Hate that font that is in your font folder? You can uninstall it, too, by right click and choosing uninstall or from the top menu button. (Always be careful when uninstalling fonts, make sure it is one you have installed yourself because uninstalling basic Windows fonts can cause your operating system to fail.)

Keep a copy of your downloaded fonts in a folder in "my docs" or somewhere else accessible on your PC to check which are safe to uninstall. You can also make collections of your favorite fonts, add them to your system fonts, use them, then delete them without harming any of your system files.

This is especially useful for PC systems with not so much memory or processing power, as very large font folders can significantly slow down your system when loading programs such as Photoshop, Elements, etc. You can use drag and drop to add files to any of these collections, or copy and paste if you prefer.  It is a really neat program with lots of features that will help in the process of scrapbook page making.
