Dora Phillips

The first time I met one of my online friends (or imaginary friends if you ask my 5yo son) was just over two years ago.  Linda was traveling with her daughter to a conference at a convention center about 45 minutes from my house.  Thrilled at the idea of getting to meet her, I spent some time on the computer searching out scrap stores in that area and mapping several of them.

When she climbed in my truck, it was like we had been friends for years instead of just six months of hanging online together.  We yapped and giggled the miles away to the first store.  I am a bit spoiled living within 15 minutes from eight different scrap retail options.  Linda, on the other hand, lives two hours from even a Target scrap isle.  We pounced on a variety of items in the first store both making several purchases.

As we headed to the next store, the Chicago weather started to dump a load of snow on us.  I asked Linda if she wanted to head back to the warmth of her hotel, but she just giggled at me.  Apparently a Chicago snow is a dusting compared to an International Falls storm.  So, we pressed on hunting for the second store.  Several phone calls and several corn fields later, we managed to find the best hidden scrap store.  An amazing selection and we both fell in love with papers from a company we were not familiar with--Reminisce.  We did not choose the same papers as our styles and current projects were different, but this company had something for each of us.

After a lunch of sandwiches as big as a plate and pie slices so warm that they melted the ice cream perfectly, we stomped through several inches of snow to head to the final store.  Linda peeked in our bags from the first store and laughed as she found we both purchased Reminisce there, too.  It was no surprise to either of us to find ourselves adding more to our collection in store three.

It was the perfect afternoon--a new friend, a new scrap company, and sandwich leftovers that could feed me for days.  My local stores now carry Reminisce and I smile and think of Linda when I add some to my basket.  This month, our Showroom column features two of their new lines and I love what our designers did with these beach inspired papers.  I picked up a few items recently and scrapped the page below in just 10 minutes.  Gotta love that!

Here's hoping you meet an online friend soon for a great day,

I Love by Dora Phillips.  Supplies:  Paper, Stickers:  Reminisce, Pen:  Sharpie.

Journaling:  Swim lessons for Teddy.  He did a good back float until he got soggy.  Of course, he had an excellent swim coach!
