Not Necessarily Literal

Inspiration doesn’t always have to come from what we literally see. October is generally known as a month of monsters, shadows and little kids have a ton of fun pretending to be someone or something else. And the inspiration piece reflects a bit of all those things. But that does not mean that some awesome artists choose to scrap just those monsters, shadows and trick-or-treaters. In fact, one group of artists created some wonderful pieces, which are not the least bit Halloweenish or even traditionally fall-themed layouts.

Nicole created a wonderful mini album featuring her goals. You can see the colors and shadows and swirls were a big inspiration for her piece. Kristene picked up on the jack-o-lantern and shared an adorable card. And, Michelle’s “Devils” layout incorporates a bit of each of the smaller inspiration pieces.

“Goals” Mini Album by Nicole Martel. Supplies: Paper: K&Company, Rub-ons: Me and My Big Ideas, Vintage buttons, Mermaid stamp, Bad Girls, Ribbon: Rusty Pickle, Pen: Signo, Ink: Clearsnap, Transparancy: My Mind's Eye.

Designer’s Note: It inspired me to do a mini on my goals. I was inspired by the colors, black, orange, and teal. The haunted house inspired me to trace my own shadow on the cover of the book, the Board, inspired me to use rub-on letters, and the moonlight photo inspired me to add a glow to my photo.

Designer’s Note: I was inspired by the pumpkin and the black haunted house.

Editor’s Note: Kristene also incorporated the swirls in the whimsical pumpkins stem.

Birthday Cards by Kristene Boston. Supplies: Cardstock: Die Cuts With a View, Chipboard: Colorbok, Ink: Clearsnap, Paint: Tempra, Rub-On: Kaiser, Other: Glimmer Mist.

Designer’s note: I was so attracted to the dark colors of the inspiration piece, the swirls in the pictures called out for Prima bling, and the red of the house popped on this page through the title. I made the moon shape also apparent with the circular journaling and brads. I used a fun stitch with the gold thread to mimic the pumpkin carving.

Devils by Michelle Boeckermann. Supplies: Paper: Reminisce, Karen Foster, Cardstock: Bazzill Basics Papers, Bling: Prima, Stamp: See-D's, Chipboard Alpha: Making Memories, Grommet: Memory Makers, Brads: Making Memories, Pens: Sakura, Other: thread, sewing machine.

Journaling: Grandmas goofing around with her grandchildren and showing off their devilish fun time they are having at the Santa Cruz Arcade Boardwalk. Sept 17th 2005.
