Welcome to Discovery Drive! Please meet Melissa
Priest, a very fun and colorful scrapper!
I'm not exactly sure what it is about Melissa’s
work that is so intriguing, maybe because it’s
not just one thing.
The first thing that stands out around her
photography is her choices in color and
combination. Another thing that sets her pages
apart is her use of shapes, in design and
embellishment. How about her placement? Her
pictures become unpredictable because they’re
placed in just the perfect spot on her pages.
Impressive also is her journaling. Every single
one of these current favorite pages of hers have
journaling that tells a story and is sure to
create a keepsake for a long time to come.
Gotta say that it’s nice to see a scrapbooker
who’s not afraid of multi-photo layouts; it’s
neat to see a secondary picture placed as an
enhancement to the overall page. I guess that
makes Melissa a very well-rounded scrapbooker,
since it’s not just one thing that exemplifies
her talent. Congratulations, Melissa, on
Discovery Drive and on your talents and designs.
Hope you keep on creating beautiful memories.

Editor’s Notes: Sometimes the
imperfect photograph is actually the perfect
one. Take those less-than-likely pictures
and scrap them anyway, then enhance them
with the perfect story, as Melissa did here.

Uncommon Knowledge by Melissa Priest.
Supplies:
Paper: Making Memories, Cardstock: Prism,
Alphabets: American Craft, Lil Davis,
Ribbon: May Arts, Flowers: Prima, Brads:
Creative Arts, Pen: Zig, Staples: office
supply.
Journaling: Same blonde hair - Same
blue eyes. Thin waists, long legs. People
cannot believe that Alex is not your
biological father. The love the three of you
have for each other can be seen by everyone.
They never guess he is your stepdad. All
others see is that Alex is always in your
corner and that he loves you without end.

All Done by Melissa Priest. Supplies:
Paper: October Afternoon, Alphabet: American
Crafts, Chipboard: Rusty Pickle, Paint: Making
Memories, Rub-On: Jenni Bowlin, Ribbon: Making
Memories, Marker: Zig, Other: buttons.
Journaling:
Well, you are all done with the 1st grade. We
are so proud of the student you've become! You
are now ready for 2nd grade & bigger challenges.
Editor’s Note:
Even though you may scrap a simpler page
(meaning less embellishments), squeeze as many
colors as you can in to those few added
elements. This brightens up the page and draws
the eye straight to the photo. |
King of The Kill By Melissa Priest. Supplies:
Paper: Jenni Bowlin, Chipboard: Technique
Tuesday, Alphabet: American Crafts, Paint:
Making Memories, Ribbon: Craft Stores, Bo Bunny,
Velvet Ribbon: craft store.
Journaling:
When Ben is in Nara Visa at Grammy and Paw Paw's
he has full rein of the days activities! He and
Paw Paw often explore together, play on the
tractor, and just 'be boys' together. Ben is,
indeed, "King of The Hill" in Nara Visa. May
2002
Design note:
I have sewn around all the page edges, and
pushed them up to give the paper some texture.
The velvet ribbon adds a layer of texture that
surprises those who flip through my pages.

Almost Grown By Melissa Priest. Supplies:
Paper: October Afternoon, Basic Grey,
Cardstock: Prism, Chipboard: Basic Grey,
Rub-ons: American Crafts, Paint: Making
Memories, Other: Buttons.
Journaling:
Where did my little boy go? You are growing
up so quickly - before long, you will be
gone out into the world! I know, that is a
long time away (relatively speaking,
anyway), but always know that you can never
outgrow my love and faith in you! xxoo, Mom
Design Note:
Ah, the boy page. Most of us may shy
away from color on a boy page, but don’t!
Strategically-placed colorful items can
brighten up a page without making it too
feminine, especially when your base color is
a bit more muted and masculine.

My name
is Melissa, and I am from Amarillo, Texas.
I am married to the love of my life, Alex,
and together, we have two rowdy boys. I am a
stay at home mom, and I absolutely love
scrapbooking and try to create something
every day. Some might think I am obsessed!
My favorite techniques to use include sewing
and stamping. I love the texture that
sewing gives a layout. My pages tend to
reflect my clean and simple style! My
favorite subjects to scrap are of my sweet
family, and our dogs Annie and AJ.
