Delightfully Frightful

Lindsey Krauss

Let’s move on to some cute stuff! After all, there is not much cuter than the little ones all dressed up – whether they like it or not! Remember being little and dressing up your dolls and Barbies? Remember trying to catch the dog or cat to decorate them, too? Perhaps the first form of altering came during our childhoods. Anyway you look at it, dressing up our little ones in October is fun. Just remember to have the camera locked and loaded, ready to go, because the moment may not last too long.

At their young ages, the thought seems more fun than the process, but look how these ladies (and kids!) not only caught the moment, but put it to paper to show the world. Here’s fun in October! Michelle and Stacey dress up their Pooh layouts with fun design and perfect embellishment. Janneke let Darren do the decorating – on pumpkin and layout.

Design note:

The candy corns were an add-on because of an ‘oops’ made by the sewing machine at the top. I decided to just drop them down like they were falling. I used a fun stitch to give it that Halloween flair.

Just the Cutest Little Pooh by Michelle Boeckermann. Supplies: Paper: Daisy D's, Imagine That, Cardstock: Bazzill Basics Papers, Stickers: Imagine That, Chipboard Alpha: Scrap Works, Scroll Bling: Prima, Flowers: Prima, Brads: Making Memories, Halloween Gellie: Around the Block, Candy Corns: Sandylion, Other: black thread, sewing machine.

Editor’s Note: They just don’t come much cuter! Free-flowing design sure can enhance a super cute moment. Try swirls, dropping candy corns, and off-set placement like Michelle did, as well as free-cut ribbon or eyelash fibers, frayed edges and rub-ons.

Design note: I wanted to keep the layout clean and simple to emphasize the adorable photo.  I added the three tags to add some interest and draw attention to the picture.

The Pooh Crew by Stacey Michaud. Supplies: Paper: Making Memories, Cardstock: Bazzill Basics Papers, Tags:  Paper Reflections, Rub-ons, Ribbon: Martha Stewart, Chipboard Letters: American Crafts, Stickers: EK Success, Basic Grey, Buttons: Autumn Leaves.

Journaling:  Auntie Sue and I plan to dress all three of you alike for as many years as we can get away with it.  Costumes from Ebay, consignment shops -- if they make it, she will surely find it.

Design note: I scanned in all the parts of the banner my son made and stitched them together with my software. To create a quick photo mat, I layered the photos on top of a cropped digital paper and flattened the images before printing.  I printed the digital papers on textured cardstock and the artwork and photos (including the mats) on glossy photo paper. I printed the tree embellishment on a transparency and simply stapled it to the page.

Darren's Halloween Art by Janneke Smit. Supplies: Digital kit: Fall Frolics by Handmaid Designs for ScrapStreet.com, Software: Adobe Photoshop CS3, Font: Garamond Premier Pro, Cardstock: Bazzill Basics Paper, Clips: Pebbles, Inc., Ribbon: Offray, Transparency: 3M, Photo paper: Epson, Other: staples.
