Delightfully Frightful

Lindsey Krauss

I have to admit, Halloween is *not* my favorite holiday: not to do, not to scrap, not to even think about. I do admit, though, that I love the whole costume thing. And you know what? I have had an absolute blast this month getting ready for Halloween: not only planning at home, decorating, planning my own kids’ costumes, getting ready for our own Halloween camping weekend, but also being inspired by all of the amazing submissions and ideas for Halloween. There are some serious Halloween-crazed scrappers out there. Are you one of them? Bring it on! I also love how Halloween, itself, is inspiring to people in so many ways.

Let’s start with the obvious Halloween stuff – the frightful! Into the darkness we go: dark in color scheme, a little dark and spooky, but maybe not so dark in content. Stacey starts us off with an incredibly cute moment captured in the blink of an eye. Whose child hasn’t at one time or another, ripped the costume they’ve been talking about for weeks right off? Did you get that with the camera? Scrap it, too? Look at Libby’s cutie – all dressed up from head to toe and shown to us in muted greens and orange and black. Linda impresses with a great, clear shot of two, obviously having fun, placed perfectly on a black palette with just the right amount of color to remind us it’s Halloween.

Design note: I used corrugated cardstock to match the theme of the layout, which is about my son's aversion to certain textures.  I wanted the layout to have motion so I staggered the letters, outlined them, and used a large circle in the background.

I Stuck by Stacey Michaud. Supplies: Paper: Making Memories, Cardstock: Bazzill Basics Papers, The Paper Company, Journaling Card: My Mind's Eye, Tape, Ribbon: Martha Stewart, Brads: Making Memories, Chipboard Letters: American Crafts.

Journaling: My sensory boy! You couldn't stand to be in that costume... No bribe or trick mattered. I wanted a good photo. You wanted out!

Design note:

I created this layout on a 12 x 12 sheet of corrugated cardboard.  After I adhered the paper that I ripped a corner back off and distressed.  The pumpkins were cut out of patterned paper and one of them was lifted off the page with double-sided foam tape.  The chipboard letters were painted with acrylic paint, and then sanded and distressed with ink.

Eek! By Libby Mac Neilly. Supplies: Paper, Coupon stickers, Alphabet, Buttons: Rusty Pickle, Ink: Stewart Superior, Other: cardboard, string, acrylic paint.

Editor’s Note: Gotta love when the adults are having as much fun as the kids! See the next page for more adult-sized Halloween fun!

Bootiful Mateys by Linda Carlson. Digital Supplies: Paper: Fall Frolic by Handmade Designs, Smell My Feet by Shabby Princess, Word art: Smell My Feet by Shabby Princess, Button: Shabby Princess, Font: Worstveld Sling Extra.
