Digital Detour

Jenn Hennegan

Welcome back to Digital Detour!  For October we are venturing back across country from New York to sunny Bakersfield, California.  Here we find Kellie Salmon, another busy digital designer.

Kellie began scrapping about two years ago.  Although, she started out backwards from most.  She started designing before scrapping.  She had been doing digital-type art for years and “kinda fell into scrapping.  I started as a hobby, something to occupy my time” and became obsessed.  So much so, she takes photos that will work with specifics kits.  Occasionally she will do a hybrid project, but has never done paper scrapping, "paper was too expensive and messy for me.  Plus, you can only use it once and it’s gone."  She does find the time to create about four layouts a month, though they don’t all make it to her gallery.

Design note:

This is my favorite layout.  It’s of my eldest son’s graduation.  We had quite the challenge and worried he wouldn’t make it for a while.  But, he did it and I am so proud of him.

Design note:

My son Wyatt is so photogenic and certainly is not shy around the camera.

Wyatt You’re Such a Little Man by Kellie Salmon. Supplies: Digital Papers and Alpha from Sweetness by  Meredith Fenwick, Digital Journals from Being Me by Ashley Wall (recolored), Yo-Yo from Boys and Their Toys by Kay Miller, Word Art by Mija Designs, Flowers and Heart from Ain't MisBeeHavin by Mary Fran.

Journaling: Wyatt you inspire me.

Design note:

I recolored some of Mistys elements to match the color of my sash.  I’m the second from the left.

Journaling: 3 long years together, But together we conquered and together we proceed into our futures.

Kelli finds her inspiration from photos, magazine ads, the outdoors, articles of clothing and sometimes even television commercials.  Her favorite kit, “A Pirate’s Life” was two months in the making but, “I had so much fun creating it.”  Her most recent “full” kit is “Sweet Sizzlin Summer.“  It was inspired by a color scheme from an ad and is also one of her favorite kits right now.   At one time, she created with PSP but found it didn’t handle the file sizes well enough for her, so she make the switch to CS3 and loves it. In addition to designing and scrapping, she’s a very busy college student, a volunteer at a local hospice and works full-time.  Unfortunately, she isn’t left with as much time to design as she would like but does find time to admire the works of Misty Cato, Carrie Stephens and just about anyone at Sweet Shoppe Designs, as well as long-time friends Veronica Spriggs and SweetMade Designs at Digi Scrap Boutique.

Kellie has been married to her husband, Doug, for 11 years.  They have two sons: Corey just turned 18 and little Wyatt is 6.  She says that even though they are far apart in age, they both behave the same age most of the time.  The family lives in Bakersfield, California.  She says that she has made so many wonderful friends in the digi-scrapping community.  “It’s one of the best places to meet new people from all over the world.  It also has some of the friendliest as well.”

You can find Kellie’s blog at http://dixiedoespspdezines.blogspot.com.  “Oh, my poor abandoned blog…I better get to updating it now.”  Kellie’s designs can be found at www.digiscrapboutique.com.  “The doors just reopened after a long downtime from a server issue.  We have lots of wonderful designers and spectacular sales and challenges.”

One of those great sales specials is just for our Scrapstreet Magazine subscribers.  Kellie has this coupon good for 35% off your purchase of Kellie Salmon Designs at Digi Scrap Boutique.  Coupon Code: scrapstreet.
