2 Sketches 4 You

With the start of December comes the anticipation of the holiday season.  Regardless of which holiday you celebrate, it is a time to reach out to family and friends, expressing best wishes and happy sentiments.  This goal is usually accomplished through the mail after we all rush out to send our holiday cards.  Being a scrapper, I often hear others talking about making their own stack of homemade cards.  I would love to be one of those people, but consider myself somewhat card-challenged.  Typically, I like my end result, but feel like it takes entirely too long for me to produce one card, never mind one for each person on my list.  Recently, I discovered a way around that barrier that might interest you too.  It is a unique and altogether wonderful blog called 2 Sketches 4 You.  The blog with the cute and clever name is specifically designed for the card maker in all of us.

Blog founders, Kazan Clark and Laura Davis, provide participants with at least one new sketch each week.  These sketches truly are blueprints as they have enough detail to guide you, yet leave plenty of room for interpretation.  Along with each sketch, Kazan, Laura and the uber-talented team of designers showcase examples of cards inspired by the drawings.  I am always thoroughly pleased when I check out the newest sketch and all the amazing eye-candy to go with it.  Members of the team are able to demonstrate how individualized the cards can be when completed.  You can see how the designers use their scraps, chipboard, stamps, felt and brads to assemble cards with beautiful details and varied textures.  The team takes it a step further by providing information about techniques or products that are meant to enhance the card-making process.  This month, the 2S4U team created cards especially for the magazine.  Half of the team completed cards based on Kazan’s sketch, while the other half tackled Laura’s blueprint.  Check out the sketches and the outstanding samples that follow!

Sketch and Moments Like This Card by Kazan Clark.  Supplies:  Paper: Basic Grey, Rub-on: Art Warehouse, Pen: Sakura, Chipboard: Basic Grey, Ribbon: Target, Other: buttons.

Editor’s note:  The sketch is inspiring and easy to use.  The details on Kazan’s card such as the ribbon, button and butterfly make this card a standout.

What being a part of this team means to you:   I was thrilled to be asked to join the amazing 2 Sketches 4 You Winter Design Team.  I have been a fan of Laura's & Kazan's work for quite a while.  I adore the amazing sketches that they provide us with each week; their sketches are extremely approachable and inspiring.  I am honored to be among such amazing talent!

Hello Card by Rae Barthel.  Supplies: Cardstock:  Bazzill Basics Paper, Paper: K & Company, Scenic Route, Daisy D's, Alpha Stickers:  BasicGrey, Brown Floss:  DMC, Circle Punches:  EK Success, Marvy Uchida, Ink:  Clearsnap, Other:  antique button, hemp cord, foam tape, file.

Editor’s note:  The flower and stem add dimension and texture to the card.  Different-sized circles were stacked to create the blossom.

What being a part of this team means to you: It means a lot of fun to me, because I love Kazan's and Laura's sketches!

Jingle All the Way Card by Peet Roeven.  Supplies:  Paper:  Scribble Scrabble, K & Company, Words, Ribbon:  K and Company.

Editor’s note:  The cluster at the bottom right-hand side adds so much interest to this card.  Stitching all along the edges gives it that extra special touch.
