March…is it spring yet? Is the grass sprouting greener, the clouds giving way to a blue sky or two and the birds singing more sweetly?   If it is in your part of the world, then its spring in the making.  Springtime means country walks or bracing rambles over the hills, or beach. Time for the photos and of course the scrapbook. Inspiration comes this month from Katey Green of Handmaid fame’s kit Spring Fresh. Lets have a look at what the team have done this month with the kit.

Editor's note: The tranquillity of the photo is enhanced by the greens and golds from the background of the kit and gives a sense of peace. I loved the dotty band across the bottom.

Glorious Landscape by Emma Moore.  Supplies: Spring Fresh by Handmaid Designs, Beaded Thread: Lindsay Jane Designs, Word Art: Tina Chambers, Font: Times New Roman.

Journaling:  After going through many long days of snow and cold weather I long for those first days of spring. The renewing of life as all the plants & trees again are covered in their finery.   There is great anticipation for those flowers to come peeking up out of the ground. All of this serves to remind me that God the creator is in control of everything.

Design note: Highlighting the theme of spring, this whimsical layout features one of our favorite events of the year: the spring clean.  The dotty paper is a perfect foil for the plain background and the whole layout is divided into that magic thirds with the torn strips. Elements placed 3 at a time or photos make the whole harmonious, i.e. 3 photo’s one side and 2 plus similarly sized journaling strip the other adds up to a numerically harmonious composition.

Journaling: Spring Clean Girl.  You can be so helpful sometimes. You looked such a picture in that ‘belt’ of a skirt. It’s a good job I don’t let you wear it outside of the house.

Editor's note: This is another example of the magic rule of thirds. Unequal but making up the whole, it brings the eye to focus in on the photo and the lovely ribbon elements help to highlight what is already a lovely frame. Never be afraid to fiddle about with your drop shadows opacity and distance or height. The further it is sometimes the more realistic it can look. It is good to make a preset within your software if you have that facility for different settings so that you get a soft shadowed look rather than a flat, plonked on the page shadow.

The Doghouse by Leigh Bossinger.  Supplies: Spring Fresh Kit :Handmaid Designs

Journaling: He is my other eyes that can see above the clouds; my other ears that hear above the winds. He is the part of me that can reach out into the sea. He has told me a thousand times over that I am his reason for being; by the way he rests against my leg; by the way he thumps his tail at my smallest smile; by the way he shows his hurt when I leave without taking him. (I think it makes him sick with worry when he is not along to care for me.) When I am wrong, he is delighted to forgive. When I am angry, he clowns to make me smile. When I am happy, he is joy unbounded. When I am a fool, he ignores it. When I succeed, he brags. Without him, I am only another man. With him, I am all-powerful. He is loyalty itself. He has taught me the meaning of devotion. With him, I know a secret comfort and a private peace. He has brought me understanding where before I was ignorant. His head on my knee can heal my human hurts. His presence by my side is protection against my fears of dark and unknown things. He has promised to wait for me... whenever... wherever - in case I need him. And I expect I will - as I always have. He is just my dog. - Gene Hill from dogquotes.com
