Never have I fancied so much on a scrapbook page!
Oh, hi! Welcome to Discovery Drive – come on down, meet Irene Tan! Irene is one super talented scrapper coming to us all the way from Malaysia! Her energy and warmth just bounce right off her pages; here, let me show you!
I just can’t tell what I like most about Irene?
Is it her use of lovely, warm happy jewel tones?
Her almost monochromatic page scheming? Maybe
it’s her abundant use of supply on a page.
Whatever might be my or your favorite
characteristic, Irene sure does scrap a
wonderfully delicious page, with layers and
surprises and details around positively
wonderful portrait photography. It takes me a good ten minutes to study a single page of hers – ten minutes in pure scrapping heaven, I might add!
Congratulations, Irene, we wish you much success!

Design note:
In this layout, I've tried to combine some distressing techniques with the
cool and funky doodling. I've done various
layers of masking to create depths and the
black and white funky doodling just makes
the page pops!
Journaling: Be happy always.

UR My Sunshine by Irene Tan. Supplies:
Papers: Basic Grey, DMD, Hot Off the Press, Cardstock: Bazzill Basic, Ink: Ranger, Tsukineko, Hampton Art, Doodlebug, Rub-Ons: Urban Lily, Pen: Zig, Uni-ball Signo, Gel Pen, Glossy accents: Ranger, Chipboard: Fancy Pants,
Tim Holtz, Paint: Making Memories,
Other: buttons.
Editor’s note:
Take note from Irene – color does not have to be evenly dispersed on a page.
Look how Irene strategically placed her
blues above and below her photograph, which
has a bit of blue in it. To go a step
further, go bold and lively with pattern in
black in white to match whatever titling,
journaling, or painting you may choose.

Journaling:
Your Smile ~ You have a smile that lights the world, Shining from within,
Breaking out between the clouds, That form
the skin of self. Lucky we, to live nearby,
that unpretentious sun, to share its fire,
to feel its love, to know its warmth so
well. Just as the sun's sweet liquid joy, is
captured in the wine, so with us your
happiness, is captured is our lives.
~Nicholas Gordon
Design note:
This is a layout about how much we cherish and feel lucky to have Chloe (my
daughter) in our lives. The inspiration for
this page comes from the meaning of her name
which is "blooming". The meaning of the name
is just right at this moment which is spring
where there are flowers starting to bloom
and the greenery all around us. I tried to
give this layout a light and springy look.
Everything is so fresh and just started to
grow. With this I've kept some open spaces
in the background and only use light colors. |
Flavor of Love by Irene Tan. Supplies:
Papers: Hot Off the Press, Cardstock: Bazzill Basic, Ink: Ranger, Clearnsap, Tsukineko, Rub-ons: Heidi Grace; Stamps: Autumn Leaves, Impression Obsession, Norsk Stempelblad, AS, Art Warehouse, Heidi Swapp, Brads: The Paper Studio, Queen&Co, Pen: Zig, Uni-ball Signo,
Paint: Making Memories, Glossy accents: Ranger.
Journaling: "Dad, even it's only for
a week, I've missed you so much! From
the moment you step out of the door, I
wonder when you'll be back. Dad, I
really love you and hope you come home
soon."
Design note:
This is a layout that my son wanted me
to do and show it to his ad who is away
on a business trip. He just wants his
dad to know how much he loves him and
want him to come home soon. Since it's
an emotional layout, I just wanted the
colors of the page to create a peaceful
and loving look to it. Therefore, I've
chosen to go monochromatic here. I've
also created some flourishes with
alcohol inks and stamping for this page.

Design note:
I've always wanted to experiment with the possibility of vellum in layouts.
Therefore, I've gone crazy stamping on
vellums for this layout and I think it gave
a very cool look to it.
Journaling:
Chloe, I'm sorry that you've been mistaken as a boy in many occasions. But
just remember that you'll always be my
princess! |

About the Designer

Hi! I'm Irene Tan aka scrapperlicious. I'm from Malaysia and a mother of two blessings. I love the beauty of combining art and creativity with the magnificent world of scrapping and crafting. I love to experiment with all the wonderful crafting and scrapping products in the market and come up with new ideas in using them. Therefore, I'm very much a technique-based scrapper or crafter.
My Words: "Scrap with your heart and don't forget to have fun too!"~ "Life in gallery"
A huge thanks to Scrapstreet for picking me to be their discovery drive featured designer for August. Hope to some of you around my
