Digital Detour

Jennifer Hennegan

This month we detour from Holland back across the Atlantic Ocean and take a cross country trip to Salt Lake City, Utah, home of this month's featured digital designer.  Amanda Thorderson started sharing her legacy at the age of twelve when her parents gave her a “Book of Remembrance” to keep her thoughts and mementos in.  While in high school she took the leap into paper scrapbooking, as she didn’t have computers back then.  In July of 2006, at home in a messy house, with a new baby and no time, a friend introduced her to digital scrapbooking.  Today, she continues to scrapbook so that her children and future generations will have a visual record of her and her family.

Amanda started to design digital kits in October 2006, just a few short months after her introduction to digital scrapbooking.  She loves colors and finds her inspiration in them.  “The perfect color swatch will tell you what to design.”  Her favorite kit, “Les Jardins Du Manoir” was inspired by her love of rich colors and a fondness for tapestries.  She was so inspired by what she was creating that she ended up having a kit and an add-on.  “Nanny’s Garden” and “Mariposa“, her two newest kit were made in tandem.  During a long, cold, Utah winter she dreamed of being in a garden surrounded by butterflies and again, found she had elements for two kits.  While she aims to have one new kit a month, Amanda will get on a roll and will also have an add-on kit and quick pages to go with it.

Design note:

I think this layout really says a lot about who I am while being fun and funky at the same time!  When I am 90, my grandchildren and great grandchildren will get a good laugh out of it and hopefully say, “Yep, that’s Nanny,

alright!”

Journaling: If you have ever been called defiant, incorrigible, forward, cunning, insurgent, unruly, rebellious, you're on the right track. Wild Woman is close by. If you have never been called these things, there is still time. Andele!

Design note: My daughter Christina is so full of life! She is such a joy to watch!

This professed lover of hybrid designs creates about five layouts of her own per month, more in the summer months.  A social worker by day, she became too busy to keep up with all the creative teams (CTs) and  gave up all but one.  She says that you would have to pry Dana Frantz’s CT from her hands.  Other favorite designers are Beth Rimmer, Dea Spina, Lilach Oren and her first digi-find Michelle Coleman.

Les Jardins du Manoir and A Whisper of Spring kits by Amanda Thoderson.

Amanda and her wonderful husband, Randy, have 4 beautiful children.  Her sons are Steven (18) and Corry (16).  Daughter Christina is 13 and  their littlest blessing is 2 year old Emily.  The family resides in Salt Lake City, Utah but Amanda will always consider her birthplace in Florida home.   Scrapbooking may be her release, but she loves to get lost in a good book.  Her favorites include “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee and “Refuge” by Terry Tempest Williams.   She won’t be found at her computer or relaxing with a good book if “Monk”, “Psych”, “24”, “The Daily Show”, or “The Colbert Report” are on television. You can purchase Amanda’s kits at Digital Scrapbook Pages.  Be sure to check her blog out often because she always has freebies to go with her newest designs.

Amanda would like to offer you this freebie… Mariposa:
