Dora Phillips

Only 8 more days and counting!

Until what, you ask? 08.08.08 and the start of the Olympic Summer Games. I am a sports lover, not quite obsessed, but close. I will play any sport I can, happily run my own fantasy football team, and will even sit and watch golf on television on Sundays. Ok, so I scrap while I watch, but still I watch sports with excitement and cheers. For me, the Olympics are the ultimate in sporting entertainment.

When the stories about the athletes air, journalists show the pictures and videos of these elite few as they chase their dreams. They tell the stories in words so moving that our hearts will stir. Already the tale of 41 year old Dara Torres swimming in her 5th Games shocks and awes me. A woman older than I competing at this level? Maybe 40 really won’t be so bad, right? And who can resist the sweet enthusiasm of gymnast Shawn Johnson? 16 and fearless, she seems to defy gravity as she soars. I know there will be a dozen more to grab my attention.

So, what does this have to do with scrap booking? Well, nothing really. But it has to do with scrap bookers. With the spirit inside of all of us that moves us to strive to live and to capture that life. Our stories are our own and maybe they are not going to be told to millions of viewers, but they are being told.

Have a wonderful month!
